Info graphic illustrating four key qualities of professionalism: communication, respect, accountability and continuous growth

After reading through my classmates’ forum responses and reflecting on what professionalism means to me, I would rate myself an 8 out of 10.

Throughout my career in the esthetics industry and now as an instructor, I have always tried to be professional in how I communicate, treat others, and approach my work. I believe being reliable, respectful, responsible, and willing to learn are all important parts of professionalism.

One thing that really stood out to me during our discussions in the forum was that professionalism isn’t something we automatically gain through education or certifications. It develops over time through experience, feedback, and learning from the people around us.

As an instructor, I recognize that my students are learning more than just technical skills. They are also watching how I communicate, handle challenges, accept feedback, and conduct myself in a professional environment. I try to lead by example and demonstrate the same behaviours I expect from them.

I chose an 8 because although I feel confident in my professionalism, I also recognize that there is always room to grow. Continuing my education through the PIDP has reminded me how important it is to reflect on my teaching, remain open to feedback, and continue improving.

To me, professionalism is not about being perfect. It’s about being accountable, treating others with respect, and always being willing to learn and grow.
